Celebrating Two Years of Excellence with Prof. Dr. Abid Ali Malik
The Career Development Office (CDO) organized an event to celebrate 2 years of hard work for the students of IMDC in providing them with career opportunities on August 10,2023 at Islamabad medical and dental college (IMDC) Auditorium.
The event was planned under the leadership of Dr.Iram Iqbal, Director CDO. Dr.Abid Ali Malik (HOD of Public Mental Health, Health Services Academy) was the chief guest of the event. Along with him, Dr.Nauman Niaz (Consultant Endocrinologist), Dr.Daniyal Hassan (Consultant Nephrologist at Shifa International Hospital) who are in the mentor list of IMDC and Dr.Sadia Rasheed (Prof. Of Anatomy at Foundation Medical University) were our guests. Around 110 people including students and faculty of IMDC attended the event.
The event was comprised of:
The Chief Guest Dr.Abid Ali Malik arrived at the venue at 10:20a.m. Students and all the faculty members were seated, and the event began at 10: 30a.m with the recitation of Holy Quran. Then a video of collective efforts of Director CDO,Dr.Iram Iqbal and CDO internees was played. It showed the importance of teamwork that enabled them to satisfy their students by fulfilling their demands.
Further Dr.Iram Iqbal called the esteemed Chief Guest Dr.Abid Malik on stage to briefly guide our students about the field of psychiatry. Dr.Abid Ali Malik addressed the current issues of youth where depression is prevailing and he suggested ways to cope up with mental disorders that included looking up to the field of psychiatry. Upon his inquiry about the interested candidates, not a single student showed interest but It was a turning moment for all the students as he explained 80% of youth especially those in the field of medicine are under depression and no one is willing to adopt this field as their profession.Dr.Nauman Niaz further added light to the topic by raising strong points which made us rethink our choice of not choosing psychiatry.
It was truly an interactive session and students took full advantage of presence of our esteemed Guests.
Chief guest Dr.Abid Malik presented certificates to CDO interness.Then the Chief guest was presented with College Crest by Dr.Khurshid Ahmed (Project Director IDH) followed by a cake cutting ceremony for CDO completing its TWO Years of excellence by all esteemed guests. Cupcakes were distributed among students and then the guests were escorted for high tea.
The event turned out to be really informative and successful because of the cooperation among the organizers. I really appreciate such thoughtful events and hope to see more intellectual personalities addressing our concerns in this diverse field of medicine. I suggest that every month a day should be dedicated where students should be given a chance to meet such experienced personalities in person and solve their queries regarding their field of choice for specialization
