MedConnect: Bridging Career in Medicine

On Tuesday, the 27th of February, 2024, the Career Development Office at IMDC held its first MedConnect session. The MedConnect series is an endeavor taken by the Career Development Office to provide students with resources and opportunities to learn about future career options in elaborate detail. Our first session revolved around the USMLE examinations, and for the students’ convenience, two of IMDC’s best graduates, Dr. Nida Nasir and Dr. Asher Javed were invited to a panel discussion and podcast style interview. The event was a success, allowing more than 120 students to voice their concerns and questions about the USMLE examinations, while having a discussion about how to improve their chances of excelling in the exams.
As a part of the CDO team, my responsibilities during the Med Connect event were diverse, primarily focusing on working with the IT team. From conducting media checks to managing presentations and overseeing attendance, my role was to ensure the event ran smoothly. Despite encountering minor challenges, I was impressed by our team's ability to collaborate effectively and independently to manage the event.
However, upon reflection, I believe there is room for improvement in terms of communication among team members. Implementing a session where concerns and suggestions can be voiced openly could enhance coordination and ensure smoother sailing for future events.
One standout aspect of Med Connect was the innovative use of podcasting technology. This platform provided our IMDC graduates with an opportunity to share invaluable insights into the USMLE process. Not only did this format deepen attendees' understanding of the medical profession's journey, but it also fostered a comfortable environment for engaging with senior peers. The familiarity with the speakers encouraged candid discussions, creating a safe space where attendees felt empowered to ask questions and seek guidance.
Furthermore, the event highlighted the significance of teamwork and effective communication. Despite facing obstacles, our team remained resilient and adaptable, ultimately delivering a successful and enriching experience for all participants.
Reflecting on Med Connect, I am proud of our collective achievements and grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a meaningful event. The lessons learned and connections formed during this experience will undoubtedly resonate with me as I continue my journey in the medical field.
