Seminar - PLAB 2 & GMC Registration

The third seminar swiftly followed its predecessors, taking place on 11th April 2022, with the previous Alumni of IMDC once again reprising their roles as guides, showing the light to their juniors. The subject matter of this seminar was discussing the PLAB2 examination, with the emphasis on obtaining the General Medical Council (GMC) license.

Once the hall had been filled and the beautiful recitation of the Holy Quran shared with the audience, Dr. Narmeen Hassan took the stage, aiming to give a brief retouch upon the Professional Linguistic and Assessments Board (PLAB)2 test and the secret on how to effectively ace this exam. Since the PLAB2 was based on the knowledge required to care for the patients, all of the 16 stations of this exam would be based on real-life scenarios, with 2 rest stations in between. Dr. Narmeen took a hands-on approach with her juniors to make sure they kept up with the spirit of the exam. She then cleared the air regarding the teaching academies, focusing on their location, their methods of teaching as well as the duration, their costs, and any potential discounts they had to offer. Before wrapping up her presentation, she recommended that self-studying over a period of 1-2 months would be sufficient for passing the exam, though one could appear in the mocks conducted by these academies.

Once Dr. Narmeen had finished, Dr. Omer Khokhar took the charge in order to accurately represent the aftermath of the exam. He laid the foundation for how to make a solid Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials (EPIC). Special emphasis was given to documenting all of the professional experiences and avoiding taking gaps of more than a span of 28 days as that could potentially hinder the application. Dr.Omer urged the students to begin their house jobs as soon as they graduate and to choose the electives specifically required by the GMC. He finally went over the essential documents required for the GMC registration and then explained to the students the steps to take once the application had been accepted.

With the seminar meeting its end, the Managing Director of IMDC and ANTH, Yasir Niazi, expressed deep gratitude and admiration for his Alumni and then illuminated his students the significance of presenting oneself out to the whole world and the effort and courage it takes, after all, that is what the PLAB test is all about.
